Hurricane Relief Efforts

For those affected by the recent catastrophic storms, from Hurricane Harvey to Hurricane Maria, the uncertainties of life may seem greater than God’s refuge. Today, millions have lost their homes, vehicles, businesses, and other properties, as well as loved ones, due to these unprecedented weather events. However, we must remember that God’s strength is made perfect during the darkest of circumstances.

If you’re pondering how to help with hurricane relief efforts, The Potter’s House (TPH) team has outlined practical ways – although not exhaustive – for you to help those affected by the storms.

  1. Pray Now

Earnest prayers have the ability to shift circumstances from dire to hopeful. The Bible encourages us to pray without ceasing, even when it seems as though God “doesn’t care.” It is in these times that God requires us to remain steadfast in our prayers. To this end, TPH team asks that you pray along with us for those affected by the hurricanes, in three specific areas, in Jesus’ name.

Area of Prayer: Strength

As you can imagine, the recent hurricanes have taken a toll on the emotional, mental, and spiritual wellness of so many affected by the storms. We ask that you pray for the survivors to not grow weary during this time of transition, but seek God’s strength in their weakest hour. May God be the source of their strength, in Jesus’ name.

He gives us strength.

He is always there to help us in times of trouble.”

Psalm 46:1

Area of Prayer: Peace

We would be remiss in thinking that peace is attained without God. The divine peace that surpasses all understanding is God’s gift to us, especially in difficult times. In addition to praying for God’s strength, we also ask that you pray for God’s peace to overwhelm those affected by the storms. May God’s presence emerge and fill their hearts and minds with an abundance of peace, in Jesus’ name.

“But the Father will send the Friend in my name to help you. The Friend is the Holy Spirit

He will teach you all things. He will remind you of everything I have said to you.

I leave my peace with you. I give my peace to you. I do not give it to you as the world does.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. And do not be afraid.”

John 14:26-27

Area of Prayer: Provision

Food, water, shelter, and transportation are just a few of our basic needs. God is faithful to supply these needs, and more, just as He supplies everything for the birds of the air. There’s no need that our Almighty God cannot meet. We ask that you pray for those affected by the hurricanes to have faith in God’s provisions. May God supply all of their needs, in Jesus’ name.

“So don’t worry. Don’t say, ‘What will we eat?’ Or, ‘What will we drink?’ Or, ‘What will we wear?’

People who are ungodly run after all those things.

Your Father who is in heaven knows that you need them.”

Matthew 6:31-32

  1. Act Now

In addition to prayer, there are other ways that you can get involved with the hurricane relief efforts. Whether you reside in Dallas or Denver, your good deeds will make a tangible difference in the lives of the hurricane survivors. The Bible informs us that we must act in accordance to our faith, as faith without works is dead. We pray that you will consider serving or donating in the following ways.

Serve as a Volunteer

Jesus Christ was one of the greatest servants in history, humbly serving others throughout his life. When we exude a servant spirit and help those in need, we honor God with our actions and our attitudes. TPH team offers many ways for volunteers to help with hurricane relief efforts by way of MegaCARE, the global humanitarian organization under the T.D. Jakes Ministries. Volunteers are needed to help with shipping and receiving tasks, preparing meals and supplies, and so much more. Contact MegaCARE today to explore the myriad ways that you can get involved.
