Woman with blank stare, emotional disorders

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

This has been a transformative week of intercessory prayer. So far, we have prayed for families, finances, strongholds, physical diseases, and peace. Today, we will delve into emotional disorders. But, what exactly is an emotional disorder? While there is no category in the  Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-V) specifically for an emotional disorder, it is a broad term covering several micro subsets of disorders. Some of these emotional disorders include the following: anxiety, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD), among others. When someone has an emotional disorder, their emotions are unstable.  If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with an emotional disorder – know that you are not alone! God is here for you. He earnestly cares about your emotional wellness.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

Today, 1 in 5 adults in America have a mental health condition. That means that over 40 million Americans are in a daily battle with their emotions, which is more than the populations of New York and Florida combined! However, God is our Jehovah-Rapha. He is the ultimate healer. Know that your emotional disorder does not define your worth. And yes, Christians can have emotional disorders, too. Regardless of the various stigmas that are often associated with emotional disorders, it’s critical that you don’t internalize what others may say about you. You must dedicate time each day to soaking in God’s infallible Word. There, you will discover the truth about who you are in Christ. God longs for you to experience divine solace that can only come from seeking Him.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Intercessory Prayer for Emotional Disorders

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you will forgive me of my sins. I believe that you gave your only begotten Son – Jesus Christ – to die for my sins. Today, I accept Jesus Christ into my life. God, I earnestly bow down to you and acknowledge you as my Lord and Savior. I thank you for being my Jehovah-Rapha. I thank you for allowing me to renew my mind every day with your Word. Lord, I want to experience stability in my emotions. Father, at times it seems as though I’m literally losing my mind. I earnestly cry out to you, Lord. I need you.  I pray that you will deliver me from any negative self-talk or destructive behaviors. I pray that you will replace all of my anxious thoughts, unstable ways, and other behaviors with your perfect thoughts and ways, in Jesus Christ’s name.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

Lord, I pray that you will supernaturally heal me. Yes, I am believing that you will heal me of my emotional disorders, in Jesus Christ’s name, for I know that nothing is too difficult for my God! Hallelujah! Yes, you are worthy, Lord! According to Matthew 6:27, I know that worrying cannot add a single hour to my life. You are the architect of my existence. I pray that you will allow me to experience stability in my emotions – right now, Father! I pray that your divine truth will be like a flood that transforms my every thought, in Jesus Christ’s name. Father, I pray that you will heal me from anxiety, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD), among other emotional disorders. I pray that everyone I encounter will experience healing from emotional disorders, Lord. I pray that they will discover solace in you, Father.

“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.” – Psalm 56:3

Father, I ask that you will convict my heart to read your Word daily. Bless me to seek your will in everything that I do. Father, guard my emotions with your peace. May your grace, mercy, and favor be upon me. I thank you for being such a compassionate Father, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
