Woman smiling with her eyes closed, peace

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” – Colossians 3:15

Today’s intercessory prayer focus is peace. In a world where disorder seems to prevail, the concept of peace may seem improbable. Peace was never intended to be an elusive idea. Know that peace is a part of God’s will for us. Unfortunately, as a society, we have grown accustomed to living in disarray. Some of us have been living in unrest for so long that it seems normal. To this end, many of us go about our day struggling to maintain our sanity. However, the Bible tells us that we can have serenity in abundance. As we unpack this intercessory prayer focus, we hope that you’ll glean a deeper understanding of how God longs for you to operate from a place of peace regardless of your environment. So, how do we experience peace that surpasses all understanding?

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

– Philippians 4:6-7

Through prayer and supplication, we can experience a supernatural peace from within. We must devote time every day for the following: praying to God; listening to God; soaking in God’s Word; and reflecting on His divine character. If we do this throughout our day, we will experience His peace flowing through us. Then, when we are faced with adverse circumstances, we will exude God’s character, not our own. When we’re led by God’s tranquility, we disrupt our worries and anxieties that inundate our minds. It’s time we surrender our thoughts and actions to God’s will. When we do this, we show God that we trust Him to provide what we need in every area of our lives, from our careers, families, friends, relationships, to our finances, and health.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. – 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Now, some may argue that they can buy things to create an environment conducive to serenity. Or, some may argue that they can simply experience peace by surrounding themselves with others that exude that attribute. However, while there are things that you can do to create a peaceful environment at your office or home, there’s nothing like experiencing the inner peace of Jesus Christ. Think about it. What good does it do you to be surrounded by beautiful décor, great friends and family, if you don’t feel God’s peace within you?

The tranquility that God longs for you to experience is found through Him. According to Philippians 4:6-7, we are instructed not to be anxious about anything, but rather pray about our circumstances, in Jesus Christ’s name. Everything about our Father is pure, magnificent, authentic, compassionate, and peaceful. When we discover God’s character, His peace dwells in us.

Intercessory Prayer for Peace

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you will forgive me of my sins. I believe that you gave your only begotten Son – Jesus Christ – to die for my sins. Today, I accept Jesus Christ into my life. God, I earnestly bow down to you and acknowledge you as my Lord and Savior. I thank you for being my Jehovah Shalom. According to James 3:18, you said that you allow peacemakers who sow in peace to reap a harvest of righteousness. I want to experience your peace, Father. I want to reap a bountiful harvest of righteousness. I no longer want to allow anxiety and chaos to overwhelm me. I know that there will be days that will test my faith, but I want to seek your peace in these situations, as well, in Jesus Christ’s name.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

Lord, I pray that you will deliver me from any negative self-talk or destructive behaviors so that I may experience your perfect peace. I pray that the peace of Christ will always reign in my heart. I pray that your peace will radiate from within me so that my countenance will be a testimony of your goodness. I pray that everyone I encounter will experience your serenity, Lord. I pray that they will discover your peace so that they do not seek peace through retail therapy, binge drinking, overeating, or any other destructive behaviors.

Father, allow me to be unbothered by the disarray of this world. I pray that your peace will fill my home, my job, and everywhere that I travel. Father, I need you to convict my spirit so that I make time for you every day regardless of my schedule. When it seems as though everything is spinning out of control in my life, allow me to find that quiet place in my soul where your divine peace resides.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10

Father, I ask that you will convict my heart to read your Word daily. Bless me to seek your will in everything that I do. Father, guard my heart and mind with your peace. May your grace, mercy, and peace be upon me. I thank you for being such a wonderful Father. Starting today I choose to radiate your peace daily, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
